How to unlock Caldarus's human form
Do not expect to begin courting Caldarus simply by talking to the farm statue every morning. His early relationship is deliberately connected to Mistria's larger mystery. The important path runs through the Mines and the elemental tablets.
- Progress the Mines and tablet quests. Caldarus's early heart progression is connected to story milestones rather than ordinary daily conversation.
- Reach the Fire region of the Mines. The important breakpoint is around Floor 60, where the Fire Tablet and Fire Seal storyline becomes relevant.
- Complete Breaking the Fire Seal. This is the major quest that changes Caldarus's role in the story and leads to his human form.
- Use Dragon's Breath to clear the Deep Woods route. After the Fire Seal sequence, the spell lets you burn through the obstruction that previously prevented access.
- Find Caldarus in the Deep Woods. His shrine is in the northeastern/upper-right part of the area.
- Continue the Mines story even after human-form unlock. Caldarus's romance route remains connected to the Final Seal all the way through marriage.
If you are following an older Early Access guide that says Caldarus cannot be fully romanced or married, it is obsolete. Version 1.0 completed the romance system and includes Caldarus among the game's 12 candidates.
Why Caldarus's hearts work differently
Caldarus is unusual because his earliest hearts are effectively story milestones. Current documentation ties early relationship increases to progression such as The Water Tablet, The Earth Tablet, the beginning of The Fire Tablet, and Breaking the Fire Seal. In other words, standing beside the stone dragon and repeatedly trying to talk to him is not a substitute for advancing the main quest.
Once Caldarus is accessible as a normal character, regular relationship tools matter again: conversation, gifts, dates after choosing the romantic path, and the later 10-heart progression.
This is also why his page belongs in two content clusters. He is part of the Romance cluster, but he is also a late-game Mines character. The natural progression path is:
Mines → Fire Seal → Deep Woods → Caldarus human form → 8 Hearts → 10 Hearts → Final Seal → Proposal

The Statuette of Caldarus is particularly thematic, but do not assume every dragon-related item is good. Dragon Claw and Dragon Scale have been documented as poor gift choices, and the Unknown Dragon Statuette is a notably bad present. Caldarus heart events and the dating choice
The shared romance system has important milestones at 8 and 10 hearts, but Caldarus retains additional story requirements. His route should be approached as a combination of main-story completion + relationship progression, not as a pure gift grind.
At the relevant 8-heart relationship scene, the game gives the same meaningful fork used by the romance system: pursue the romantic path or keep the relationship platonic. Choose the romantic response if your goal is to date and eventually marry Caldarus.

Why Breaking the Final Seal matters to Caldarus
Reaching 10 hearts is necessary, but it is not sufficient for a Caldarus proposal. Current 1.0 documentation explicitly states that proposing to him requires completion of Breaking the Final Seal. Attempting to use the Engagement Ring earlier is blocked because Caldarus is still bound to the Deep Woods.
To reach that point, continue through the Ancient Ruins. Floor 90 contains the Find the Magic Key puzzle, and after unlocking Floors 91–100 you eventually reach the Final Seal. Breaking it requires four Dragon-Forged materials:
- Dragon-Forged Fang
- Dragon-Forged Horn
- Dragon-Forged Core
- Dragon-Forged Powder

A safe route is:
- Complete Caldarus's earlier story and relationship milestones.
- Choose his romantic/dating route at the appropriate 8-heart scene.
- Raise Caldarus to 10 hearts.
- Continue the main story through Breaking the Final Seal.
- Unlock and craft the Engagement Ring.
- Use the ring to discuss marriage with Caldarus and trigger his 10-heart scene.
- Choose the proposal option only when you are ready to commit to the wedding route.
The ring interaction is worth treating carefully. The game allows multiple dating relationships before engagement, but marriage is a single-partner commitment.
Caldarus marriage and children
Once you satisfy his story gates and complete the proposal path, Caldarus can proceed into the same broad endgame relationship systems as the other eligible candidates: engagement, wedding, married life, and optional children.

Marriage does not erase the importance of Caldarus's connection to the game's magic systems. His route remains story-heavy from beginning to end, which is why players who rush only gifts can encounter blockers that do not appear on a conventional candidate's route.
Caldarus, Seridia, and the post-Mines story
After Breaking the Final Seal, both Caldarus and Seridia become more integrated into the late-game social world. Current post-Mines Friday Night at the Inn content even places them together in the later Dragons & Drama group once the Final Seal storyline is complete.
This gives the Final Seal a purpose beyond unlocking another floor. It closes the major Mines arc while opening character, romance, Western Ruins, and post-story content.

I cannot give the farm statue a gift
That is expected during the early game. Progress the Mines and complete the Fire Seal story until Caldarus becomes available in human form.
I reached a heart threshold but nothing happened
Push the main quest. Caldarus has more story gates than ordinary villagers, and his early relationship progression is connected to the tablet and seal questline.
